Our last day in the Split area was spent visiting the nearby towns of Solin and Trogir. Solin is the sight of a massive Roman ruin that dates back to the times of Christ's apostles. Crumbling stone walls mark the sites of baths, entrances, and many other structures in the towns. It's hard to imagine the bustling life that must have gone on in those walls, but the ruins themselves were quite amazing as well. Rob and I staged a mini gladiator fight in the amphitheater for good measure.
Next we headed off to Trogir, described as a mini Dubrovnik. The small walled town sits on an island in a narrow channel, and the old walls, marble streets, and twisty turny alleys were reminiscent of the larger city. A climb up an old for tower gave us a nice view of the city, complete with luxury yachts in the harbor.
We polished off the day with a tasty home cooked meal and a late night walk along the Split Riva (waterfront) with some ice cream. Mmm.
